Practicing psychotherapy since 23 years, I have
been mostly working early detection and psycho-reeducation for
children with learning disabilities and mentally retarded children.
The focusing have been a global humanistic approach where the
individual is never separated from his daily needs. Helping the
child to gain basics in autonomy is a major goal where he could
appreciates his capabilities and deal with them .The couple and
family are essential to boost and develop their children process
of awareness and integration for a better meaningfull life.
Parents are co-workers but also the participators of a growing
up process where the parent-child interaction becomes an adaptive
management of problems and changes. The child's life is the parents'
concern and focusing.
The therapeutical work considers growing up as a mutual awareness
process engaging the two partners for life.
I have olso been mostly working with adults; individuals, couples
and families with pre-depressive and depressive states, panic
anxiety problems and schizoaffective psychopathologies.
I have learned to deal with those typical XXI e century pathologies
in helping the patient to be aware of his disorganized needs physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual. Reorganizing what he really wants
is another step to engage him in his daily priorities with a new
feeling of self confidence and trust.
Gestalt therapy is my predominant approach in psychotherapy.
I am mostly influenced by Dr David Gorton my trainer and old
time friend.
My late father Dr Henry Joseph Acoury, a fine human being and
cardiologist taught me as a young boy to listen, observe and feel
people's actions and reactions with compassion.
